A R Ajit Bhagat operates out of Block 14 in the Nanjappa area of Bibwewadi. It’s a settled neighborhood where everyone seems to know everyone else. The office is basically a room that we’ve converted into a workspace. It’s got a big window that looks out onto the street, so we see the school kids walking by and the milkman on his rounds. We don’t have a flashy sign or anything. Most people find us by word of mouth or by just walking past and seeing us through the door. The furniture is a bit mismatched, gathered over the years as we needed more space for files and equipment. We do our work quietly and try not to make too much noise for the neighbors. There is usually a pile of newspapers in the corner and a calendar that’s a month behind. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere here. We don't use big words or try to impress anyone with fancy talk. If someone comes in with a problem, we sit down and look at it together. Bibwewadi is a good place to be because it’s not as frantic as the city center. We can actually hear ourselves think. We take a long lunch break and sometimes the office stays closed for an hour if we all go out together. It’s just how we run things. Nothing too complicated, just a local spot for local work that needs to get done.
