7Th Heaven

We are tucked into Celestino on Dhanori Road. If you know where the Jakaat Naka is, you’ve probably walked past us a dozen times. It’s a busy little stretch of Pune. The shop usually smells like vanilla or whatever we’ve got in the oven that morning. We spend a lot of time icing cakes and trying to make sure the display case looks decent. It's not always perfect, sometimes the cream is a bit lopsided but it tastes fine. We get a lot of kids coming in after school wanting something sweet. The floor is a bit cramped when we have more than three people waiting. We don't have a big fancy team, just a few of us who know how to bake. Sometimes we run out of the popular stuff by four in the afternoon and have to tell people to wait for tomorrow. The traffic outside is constant, so there’s always that background noise of horns and bikes. We keep the music low. It’s a nice place to work, even if the flour gets everywhere. My apron is never clean for more than ten minutes. We just keep making the snacks and cakes that people around Dhanori seem to like. Nothing too complicated about it. We’re just here from morning until late evening, making sure there's something on the shelves for anyone who stops by.
