Down in Chemmanthoor, Kollam, our B S N L office is a place many people know. It is a solid building where we deal with all the daily tasks of keeping the lines running. We have a lot of old ledgers and some newer computers too, mixing the old ways with the new. The fans hum constantly overhead, trying to keep the air moving while people wait their turn at the counter. We spend a lot of time talking on the phone or helping someone with their bill. It isn't always fast, but we try to be steady and get through the pile of work on our desks. Sometimes the lines outside the office get long, especially on Monday mornings or after a holiday. We see the same faces every month, and we’ve come to know their stories a bit. The office has that specific smell of paper and electronic equipment that has been around for years. Outside, the traffic in Kollam keeps moving, but inside we just focus on the task at hand. We deal with cables, connections, and all the little glitches that happen on a daily basis. It is just a regular job for us, and we take it one day at a time. The building isn't anything special to look at, but it’s where we do our work. We just keep plugging along, making sure the communication stays open for the town as best as we can manage. Even when things get stressful, we try to stay calm and help the next person in line.
