Pulwama Organic Vegetable Farmers Producer Company Limited is basically a group of us folks here in Bhatwanpora who decided to work together. Javaid Ahmad Bhat's place is where we handle most of the paperwork and meetings. It gets busy during the harvest season. We grow all kinds of vegetables in the fields around Pulwama. It is not always easy with the weather and the roads, but we manage somehow. People know us as a small team. We don't have a big fancy office, just the space in Pulwama. Usually, you can find someone around the office during the day unless they are out in the fields checking on the crops. We focus on organic ways because that is what feels right for the land here. It takes more time and some extra hands, but we have been doing it this way for a while now. The group started because small farmers like us were struggling to sell things on our own. Now we pool everything together. It helps with the transport costs mostly. We aren't trying to be some massive corporation. We just want to make sure the vegetables we grow get to the market in good shape. Sometimes the rain messes with the schedule, but that’s just farming life for you. Most of us have been living in this part of Pulwama our whole lives. We know the soil pretty well by now and just want to keep farming.
