Vignesh Eng Work Hollow Black & Paver Tables

Out here in Chindakudi, Arimalam, we’ve got our yard at number 7. It’s mostly outdoor work, making hollow blocks and those tables for pavers. The sun gets really hot in the middle of the day, so we try to get the heavy lifting done early or later in the evening when it cools down a bit. It’s a dusty business, there’s no way around that. You get used to the smell of wet cement and the sound of the machines running. We aren't a huge operation, just a local spot where we make things that people need for building their houses or fixing up their yards. Arimalam is a quiet place for the most part, and our yard is just part of the landscape now. We have stacks of blocks piled up waiting to be moved. It’s hard work on the back and the hands, but it’s what we do. We don't have a fancy office or anything like that. Just the equipment and the space to work. Sometimes the weather makes it hard to dry the blocks properly, so we have to wait on the rain to stop. We’ve been doing this for a while and we know the rhythm of the work. People come by in their trucks to pick up what they ordered. It’s straightforward work. No big secrets to it, just mixing and molding and moving heavy stuff around all day long. We just keep at it and hope the machines don't break down.
