V M Modern Rice Mill

Down here on Main Road in Puduvayal, we run the rice mill. It's number 95, so it's easy to find if you're coming through Pudukkottai or anywhere in the Sivagangai area. The machines make a lot of noise, but that's just part of the work day. We spend most of our time dealing with bags of paddy and getting the rice cleaned up. It's dusty work, and at the end of the day, we're usually covered in it. We've got a small crew here, mostly locals who have lived around here their whole lives. We don't really do much besides milling rice. Sometimes the trucks arrive late and we have to stay a bit longer to get everything unloaded. It gets hot in the summer, but we keep the fans going as much as we can. People bring their harvests in, and we do our best to get them through the process without too much delay. The mill has been around for some time now. We don't have a website or anything like that, just the sign out front on the road. Most people just know us by word of mouth. It's a straightforward business, really. We just focus on the rice and making sure the machines are running right. If a part breaks, we fix it ourselves. That’s just how it goes in this line of work.
