Matha Rice Mill

Matha Rice Mill is located right at 2/538, Kalaignar Salai. If you are driving on the Pudukkottai - Pattukkottai Road, you will see us. It is a busy stretch of road with a lot of trucks moving back and forth all day. We have been milling rice at this spot for a good while now. The noise of the machinery is something you just get used to after a few days of working here. It is loud, but it means the work is moving along. We handle a lot of different grain that comes in from the local farmers around here. It is a very practical business. There is not much to the building itself, just some high ceilings and the smell of fresh husks in the air. We start the work early in the morning before the sun gets too high and makes the mill too hot. By the middle of the day, the whole place is usually humming. My brothers and I run the operations mostly. We learned how to do this from our father. It gets a bit dusty inside, but that is just how a rice mill is. We do not have a front desk or anyone to greet you. If you want to talk to us, you just walk in and find someone near the machines. We try to keep the traffic on the Pudukkottai - Pattukkottai Road moving when trucks come for pick-ups. It is a simple way of living.
