M N R Modern Rice Mill

The M N R Modern Rice Mill is situated at 402 A, Rajalipatti Post, over in the Viralimalai region. It’s a pretty loud place to work because the machinery is running for most of the daylight hours. You can usually smell the rice being processed from quite a distance down the road. We’ve got a decent amount of space here at number 402 A, which is necessary for all the heavy bags and the equipment we use every day. It’s a dusty environment, no matter how much we try to sweep up, but that’s just the nature of running a rice mill. We work closely with the local farmers who bring their harvest to us after the season. Viralimalai is a place where people really understand the value of hard work, and we try to keep up with that. The office is just a small corner where we keep the ledger and take a quick break when the afternoon heat gets to be too much. We don’t have a corporate structure; it’s just a few of us making sure the machines are greased and the rice is moving through the system properly. Sometimes a belt breaks or a motor starts acting up, and we have to spend the afternoon fixing it ourselves with whatever tools we have. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s an important one for the village and the surrounding farms. We’ve been at this for years.
