D. S Knit Garments

Our workshop is inside the Velmurugan Rice Mill Compound at No. 1 / 3, out on the Dharapuram Tiruppur Road. It’s a bit of an unusual spot, being in a rice mill compound, but it works well for D. S Knit Garments. There’s plenty of space for the knitting machines and for storing the yarn. The floors are concrete and can get a bit cold in the early mornings. We have a lot of large machines that make a fair bit of noise when they're all running. You get used to the rhythm after a while. The compound itself is quite big, so there’s always trucks coming and going with different things. We spend most of our time keeping an eye on the needles and making sure the fabric is coming out right. It’s a lot of manual checking. We don’t have a fancy office or a place for guests to sit. Usually, we just stand around the cutting tables if we need to talk about something. The dust from the knitting process gets everywhere, so we’re always sweeping up. It’s hard work and the days are long, especially when we have big orders to finish. We just keep our heads down and get on with it. It’s a basic setup, but it’s where we do everything for the business and keep the orders moving.
