Our place is located in Kariamanickam Village, which is part of the Nettapakkam Commune in Puducherry. It’s a bit away from the main city, which is good for the kind of work we do at Snam Alloys Pvt. Ltd. We deal with ferroalloys, which means we spend a lot of time around big furnaces and heavy materials. The village setting is quiet until you get inside our gates, and then it’s all about the industrial process. It gets very hot near the smelting areas, and you can feel the heat even from a distance. We use a lot of raw materials that come in by the truckload. Most of the people working here are locals who have learned the trade over many years. It is a tough environment, but it’s what we know. We don’t have any polished marketing materials or a big sales team. Most of our business comes from the fact that we’ve been here in Puducherry for a long time and people know what we produce. The ground around the plant is often dark from the materials we use. We focus on the chemistry of the metal and making sure the mix is right for the alloys. It’s a lot of hard labor and technical monitoring. We just come in, do our shifts, and make sure the production stays on track. It is practical work that supports a lot of other industries, even if most people don't see it. Sometimes the rain slows down the moving of materials outside, but the furnaces stay running regardless.
