Auroma Leather Craft

Our workshop is at 20 Belcomb Street. It is a small brick building that has been around for ages. If you walk inside, the first thing you will notice is the heavy smell of leather and glue. It is a scent I have lived with for twenty years, so I do not even notice it anymore. We make various leather goods by hand. We have a couple of old sewing machines and a long wooden table where we cut the hides. It is just me and my old friend Sam working here most days. We do not have a storefront or a display case for people to look at. Most of the stuff we make is already promised to someone who ordered it weeks ago. The floor is made of cold concrete and it gets very chilly in the winter, so we always wear heavy boots. We do not use any modern computers for our designs. I still prefer to draw everything out on cardboard templates with a pencil. My hands are usually stained with dark dye, and I have more than a few scars from the needles over the years. We do not have a secretary to answer the phone, so if we are busy with a piece, we just let it ring. We are not in a rush to grow the business. We like the way things are. We work at our own pace and make sure the stitching is right.
