Apollo Hospital

Our place is at No 140 Bussy Street in the Pondicherry HO area, right across from the Chinna Kadai market. Being on Bussy Street means it is always lively outside with tourists and locals walking past the windows. The building has that old Pondicherry feel to it, though we have fixed up the inside to make it work for a hospital. The doors are heavy and sometimes creak when the wind catches them from the street. Since we are so close to the market, we can hear the vendors shouting and the motorbikes buzzing by all afternoon. It gets very humid here, so we keep the fans going at full speed. The reception area is small and simple with some wooden benches that have been there since the day we moved in. We have a little courtyard in the back where some of the staff sit during their breaks to get away from the computer screens. It is not a very tall building, just a couple of floors that we have filled with equipment and desks. We get a lot of people stopping in just to ask for directions because of where we are located. The staff speaks a mix of languages depending on who walks in, and we just try to keep things moving as smoothly as we can. It is a practical setup in a very old part of town where history is right outside the door.
