Tripathi General Store

Tripathi General Store is located at 178, Bai Ka Bagh. It is right in the middle of a residential area in Allahabad, so we get a lot of local families coming in for their needs. We sell all the basics, from flour and rice to batteries and light bulbs. The shop is small and the ceiling is quite low, which makes it feel a bit crowded when more than three people are inside at the same time. We have lived in this area for a long time, so we know most of our neighbors by face. They come in for a kilo of sugar and end up talking about their kids or the weather for ten minutes. We do not have a big staff, just the family taking turns behind the counter throughout the day. The morning is usually the busiest time when everyone is getting things for breakfast. In the afternoons, it gets very quiet and we spend that time checking the stock and writing down what we need to order from the wholesalers. We do not use a computer for our accounts; it is all done in a thick notebook with a blue pen. It works for us. The building is old and sometimes the door sticks during the monsoon season, but it is a solid place. We are not trying to be the biggest store in the city. We just want to make sure the people living around here can get what they need.
