Saurabh General Store

If you walk down Chatnag Road in Jhunsi, you’ll find our little shop, Saurabh General Store. Allahabad gets really hot in the summer months, so we try to keep things cool inside for whoever drops by to pick up their things. We aren't a big supermarket or anything like that, just a regular general store where you can grab a pack of biscuits or some soap without having to go all the way into the main city. The shelves are packed with all sorts of things, from notebooks for the kids to cooking oil for the kitchen. It’s been our routine for years now, opening the shutters and seeing who comes in first. Sometimes it’s the same neighbors every morning, and other times it’s someone just passing through Jhunsi who needs a quick snack or a cold drink. We don't have a big team, just us making sure the stock is filled and the place is tidy enough to walk through. The address is pretty easy to find once you're on the main road. We see a lot of changes in the neighborhood over time, with new buildings going up and more traffic than before, but the shop stays pretty much the same. It’s a quiet life mostly, just counting out change and helping people find what they’re looking for on the shelves. We try to stock what people ask for most often, so the inventory changes depending on what the local families are needing that month. We just like being part of the street.
