If you’re walking near Big Bazar in Civil Lines, you’ll find us easily. Allahabad gets busy, especially in this area, and R S Men is right in the middle of it. It’s a shop for guys who just want a decent haircut or a quick shave without making a big deal out of it. We have the old-style chairs that still work fine. The floor is usually covered in hair until we get a break to sweep it up. We’ve been around this part of Civil Lines for some time. You can hear the traffic from the main road all day long. Some customers come in every two weeks like clockwork for a trim. Others just drop by because they were shopping at Big Bazar and realized they needed a haircut. We don’t have any fancy music playing, just the radio or sometimes the news on a small TV in the corner. It’s a place where you can sit, wait your turn, and talk about the cricket or the weather. The towels are always being washed and dried out back. It’s hard work being on your feet all day but it’s what we do. The neighborhood has changed a lot with the mall nearby but we stay the same. We use the usual razors and scissors that we’ve always used. It’s a practical shop for regular men who live or work nearby in Allahabad. We stay here until late night when the market finally quietens down and the shops start closing up.
