Naini Moonj Craft Producer Company Limited is based at 508 South Lokpur in Naini. It’s a part of the world where people have been making things with their hands for a very long time. Our place at 508 is where we gather to deal with the moonj craft. If you haven't seen it, moonj is a type of grass that gets dried and woven into all sorts of things. We spend a lot of time surrounded by these tall piles of dried grass that smell like the outdoors. The workspace in South Lokpur is pretty basic. We have some stools and a lot of floor space for the weaving. It can get a bit messy with bits of grass everywhere, but that’s just the nature of the craft. We don't have fancy computers or high-tech machines; it’s mostly just us and our tools. The neighborhood is fairly quiet, which is good because you can actually hear yourself think while you work. We talk a lot while we weave, mostly about everyday things like what's for dinner or the weather. It’s steady, plain work that keeps us busy from dawn till dusk. We’re just glad to have a roof over our heads and some grass to weave.
