You can find Mannu General Store over at 23/456 in the Rasoolpur area of Kareli. We are tucked in near the Me Erasure Police Chowki, which is a landmark everyone in Allahabad seems to know. Being so close to the chowki means there’s always something happening outside. Our shop is a straightforward general store. We carry the bits and pieces that people run out of in the middle of the week. It might be a packet of tea or some spices for dinner. The space inside is tight because we try to keep a lot of variety, so you have to mind your step. We’ve got bags and jars everywhere. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we are usually too busy behind the counter to worry about that. Customers usually walk in, ask for what they want, and we get it for them. There’s no self-service here, just us reaching for things on the high shelves. The weather in Allahabad gets really hot, so the shop stays a bit dim to keep it cool inside. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just know where we are and come by when they need something. It’s a quiet way to earn a living, just helping out the folks around Kareli with their daily shopping. We keep the ledger books on the desk to track things, and there's always a bit of dust on the top shelves that we can't quite reach easily.
