Our shop has been part of this neighborhood for a very long time, passed down through the family. We aren't trying to compete with those big, shiny supermarkets that are opening up in the malls. We prefer the old way of doing things where you walk in and talk to the person behind the counter. The building is an older structure, and it stays relatively cool even when the Uttar Pradesh summers are at their worst. We handle a variety of goods that local households and smaller vendors need. It is mostly sacks of staples and boxes of everyday items piled up in the back. There is no air conditioning here, just a couple of old ceiling fans that have been humming for years. Sometimes the traffic outside gets so loud you have to raise your voice to be heard, but that is just the character of Mutthiganj. We don't have a big marketing plan or a fancy website. People just know we are here at number 109. We take pride in just being a steady presence in the market. It is honest, hard work and we plan to keep it going just like our elders did before us.
