Kamal Store

Kamal Store is tucked away on Station Road in Bairhana, Allahabad. We are right near the railway line, so you can always hear the trains passing by throughout the day. It’s a sound we have grown very used to over the years. The shop isn't very large, but we try to pack in as much as we can on the wooden shelves. We sell things like matches, soap, some loose tea, and basic snacks. It’s the kind of place where people stop by for a quick chat while they pick up their daily needs. The floor is a bit uneven and the paint on the walls has seen better days, but it’s a honest place. We don’t spend money on fancy displays or advertising because everyone in Bairhana already knows where we are. Dealing with the wholesalers can be a bit of a headache sometimes, especially when prices go up and we have to explain it to the neighbors. We mostly do everything ourselves, from sweeping the front step to counting the change at night. It’s a quiet life in a loud location. When the monsoon hits, we have to be careful about the dampness coming in from the door. We just put out some gunny bags and carry on. It’s just a small family-run spot that has become part of the background for people living near the tracks here. We enjoy seeing the same faces every morning when we open up our shop.
