Jyas Kirana

Jyas Kirana is located in the Kudi Mini Lig area of Allahabad. It is a small neighborhood shop that has been here for a bit. Mostly we sell groceries like cooking oil, spices, and some snacks for the kids who live nearby. Allahabad gets really hot in the summer months, so we keep the ceiling fan running all day long. The shop is close to the residential quarters, so people from the Lig flats come over when they suddenly run out of milk or salt in the middle of cooking. It’s a small place, so we don't carry everything you might find in a big city market, but we have the basics. I usually sit at the counter from early morning till late evening. My brother helps out sometimes when it gets busy during the dinner rush. We get our supplies from the main market across town. Sometimes the prices go up without notice, and we have to explain that to the ladies who come to shop. It’s just a regular kirana store with no big signs or bright lights. We know most of our customers by their names. If someone is short a few rupees, we just write it down in our small register for next time. It’s how things work here in Kudi Mini Lig. We try to keep things organized, but the floor is just plain cement and can look a bit worn out sometimes.
