Johar Mal Madan Gopal

Johar Mal Madan Gopal has been a part of this chowk for a very long time. Our shop is No. 28, and being so close to Ghanta Ghar means we are right in the middle of everything. The clock tower is like our daily timer; we hear it all day long while we are serving customers. The chowk is always a bit of a mess with people, cycles, and carts moving in every direction, but there is a rhythm to it that you get used to after a few years. Our shop is old-fashioned, with wooden shelves and a stone floor that has seen better days. We do not believe in all those modern store layouts. We like things where we can reach them. Dealing with the public in such a busy area means you meet all sorts of people. Some are in a huge rush, and others want to sit and talk about the weather or the price of goods. We carry a bit of everything that the local families need. It gets very crowded during the festivals, and sometimes we can barely see the street for all the people. The lights of the market at night are something else, though. Even when it is exhausting, there is a certain pride in being part of a business that has survived so many changes in the city. We just open up the shutters every morning and see what the day brings, no matter how chaotic it gets.
