Gopal Store

Gopal Store is right in the middle of the Colonelganj Sabji Mandi in the Katra area of Allahabad. Our address is 696, and being in a vegetable market means the mornings are absolutely chaotic. There is a lot of shouting, carts moving around, and people haggling over prices right outside our doorstep. We do not sell vegetables ourselves; we focus on the dry goods and general items that people need after they have finished their produce shopping. It is a small, practical space. I have to be careful about where I stack the sacks because the floor space is limited. The air is always full of the smell of fresh greens from the mandi and the spices from our own jars. I have been working here for years, and my hands are usually a bit rough from handling the heavy packaging every day. It is not a quiet job. You have to be quick and remember where everything is hidden behind the counter. Sometimes I lose my pen or the calculator stops working, and those are the frustrating moments. But seeing the familiar faces of the local ladies who come to shop every day makes it worth it. We do not have a website or any of that new stuff; people just walk in. It is an old-fashioned way of doing business, but in a place like Katra, it still works just fine. We keep the doors open as long as the market is active.
