Dipu General Stores

We've been here on Leader Road in Shahganj for a good while now. It's usually pretty loud outside with the rickshaws and people rushing toward the station. The shop isn't huge, just some shelves filled with whatever people might need during the day. Sometimes the dust from the road gets in, so we spend a lot of time wiping things down. Most of the people who come in are neighbors we’ve known for years. They don’t just buy things; they usually hang around to complain about the heat or the price of sugar. We keep the doors open from early morning until the sun goes down. There’s always a crate or two sitting near the entrance that we haven't found a permanent spot for yet. It’s just how things are here in Allahabad. We don’t have fancy lighting or anything like that. The ceiling fan makes a bit of noise, but it keeps the air moving. If someone needs a pen or a packet of biscuits, they just pop their head in. Usually, I’m sitting behind the counter or reorganizing the back where we keep the extra sacks. It’s a simple routine. We see the same faces every Tuesday and Friday. There’s not much to say except we are just another part of this busy street. Life moves fast on Leader Road, but inside here, things feel a little slower once you get past the front step. We just keep the inventory stocked as best as we can manage.
