Brija Mohanlal Provision

Brija Mohanlal Provision is situated right at the Ram Bhavan Chowraha in the Bahadur Ganj area of Allahabad. This is an old part of the city, and the building reflects that. The crossroads outside is always busy with rickshaws and people moving about. We’ve been operating from this spot for a long time, and not much has changed in terms of how we do things. The morning starts with unloading crates of oil and sacks of grain. Our space is often filled with the smell of spices and raw sugar. The walls are a bit stained from years of use, and the ceiling fan wobbles a little when it’s on full speed. We spend most of our hours sitting behind the wooden desk, writing down accounts and handing out items to customers. It’s a very manual process. We don't have air conditioning, so the summers can be quite tough, but the thick walls keep it a bit cooler than the street. People from all over Bahadur Ganj stop by for their household staples. We keep things like tea, cooking oil, and various spices in large tins. Sometimes the kids from the nearby houses come in for a single piece of candy. It’s a slow and steady kind of life here at the chowraha. We just focus on keeping the inventory updated and making sure the locals can find what they need for their daily meals without much trouble.
