The work is physically demanding and we get dirty every single day. We don't have a marketing department out here. We just have miners, drivers, and a few office staff. It’s a quiet place once the machines stop. We handle the extraction of bauxite. It’s the start of the whole process. We don't use fancy English or corporate slogans. We just talk about the weather and the equipment. The roads are often dusty and the hills are steep. We’ve been working this land for quite a while. It’s a hardworking community. We live in the local area and we know the terrain well. We don't have a lot of visitors, but we stay busy. Our life is just this: we are people who work with the earth. It’s honest, difficult work. We don't need to dress it up. We just make sure the mines are productive and the workers are okay. When the sun goes down, the quiet is very deep. You realize how far out you are. But the work starts again at dawn, so we get our rest.
