We started this shop, Solar Power & Services, over in Cherala because the power around here can be so patchy. Our place is at Door No.9-5-41 in the Shree Sai Hanuman Plaza, specifically Shop No.9. It is not a very big space, just enough for some desks and a bunch of solar panels leaning against the walls. Most days, you will find us out on someone’s roof in the hot sun. Because it gets really dusty in Dist. Parakasham, the panels need cleaning more often than people think. Helping folks get their lights to stay on when the grid goes down is what we do most. It involves a lot of wiring and heavy lifting with those big batteries. You might notice the shop is often a bit of a mess with wire cutters and half-eaten lunches on the counter. We are just local people trying to make things work. Sometimes parts take a whole week to arrive from the city, so we have to ask customers to be patient. There isn't a fancy website or a professional receptionist here. If the phone rings, one of us just picks up his mobile. Having been at this plaza for a while, the neighbors all know us by now. It’s just a regular small business. Even though our backs hurt at the end of the day, we like the work. Seeing a house finally get its own power feels good.
