Down here in Kurnool, specifically in the SC Colony at Putakalamarri, life revolves around the farm cycle. We are the Seemandhra Organic Farmer Producer Company Limited. It’s a long name for a group of us who just decided to pool our resources. In Devanakonda mandalam, the sun gets pretty hot, and the ground can be stubborn. We figured out a while ago that the old ways of farming, without the heavy chemicals, were better for our health and the land itself. We aren’t experts with big degrees, just farmers who know the dirt under our fingernails. Sometimes the crops don't grow exactly how we want, but that is just how nature works. We spend our days checking the plants and making sure the water is reaching where it needs to go. Our families are all involved in one way or another. When it's harvest time, the whole colony gets busy. We set up this company so we could help each other get our produce to more people without losing money to middlemen. It’s a simple setup. We don’t have a flashy building or a team of marketing people. We have 3/104 in the colony where we keep our records and meet up. It’s a quiet place, mostly just the sounds of the village. We take it one day at a time, hoping the rains come when they should and our work pays off for everyone in the group.
