If you’re driving down M.G. Road, you probably know where Friends Petroleum is. We are right near there, in City Plaza at Door No-1. It’s a busy spot, especially during the rush hour when everyone is trying to get somewhere. Our shop has been here for a bit, and we mostly spend our time moving tiles around and talking to people who are fixing up their houses. It’s not an easy job, tiles are heavy and they break if you aren't careful. We’ve had our fair share of accidents over the years, a dropped box here and there, but that’s part of the trade. The showroom at City Plaza stays pretty busy. We don't have a big team or anything, just a couple of us who know where everything is kept. Some days are slow and we just tidy up the stacks, and other days three families show up at once wanting to see different patterns. M.G. Road is always noisy, which we’ve gotten used to. We keep a lot of stock in the back because people usually want to take their tiles home right away. It’s a practical business. We don’t do much fancy talking. You come in, look at the tiles, we tell you the price, and that’s that. Living and working near the petrol pump means we see a lot of faces. It’s just how we make our living here and we appreciate the people who stop by.
