Srinivas Ice Cream

Our little shop is located at No:3/1 in Kalaignar Nagar, right here in Pulicat. It’s not a very big place, just enough room for the freezers and a small counter where we stand. Being in Pulicat, the air is often salty and the sun can be really strong in the afternoons. That is when people start trickling in. They look for something cold to take the edge off the heat. We have different varieties of ice cream stored in the chest freezers. You can hear the hum of the machines all day long. Sometimes we have to fix the lids because they get stuck with ice. It’s just part of the job. We see a lot of the local families coming by in the evenings after dinner. The kids are always excited, pointing at the pictures of the cones and sticks. We try to keep the floor clean but with the sand from the street, it’s a constant battle. We don’t do anything fancy with decorations. It’s just white walls and the bright lights from the freezer displays. Usually, it’s just one of us working the shift. We stay open until the foot traffic slows down on the road outside. It feels good to be a part of the neighborhood. People stop to talk for a minute or two while they wait for their change. We’ve been at this address for a bit now and it’s become our second home.
