Vel Travels

Vel Travels is up on the 1st Floor at No. 67, on the 3rd Cross of Thirumal Nagar in Kosapalayam. Being on the first floor gives us a bit of a view of the street below. Kosapalayam is a busy part of Pondicherry, and Thirumal Nagar has a lot of houses and small shops packed together. You have to walk up the stairs to get to us. The office is just a couple of rooms where we keep our files and take calls. We have been running things from here for a good amount of time. It’s mostly about managing the drivers and making sure the cars are where they need to be. We have a whiteboard where we scrawl down the daily schedules. It’s not a high-tech operation, but it gets the job done. The air conditioning works most of the time, which is a relief during the hot Pondicherry afternoons. We get a lot of calls from people in the neighborhood needing a ride for a hospital visit or a trip to the station. We don't use any slick marketing talk. We just tell people what we have available and what the price is. It’s a very local way of doing things. Sometimes it’s quiet, and other times three phones are ringing at once. We just take it as it comes and try to stay organized in our own way.
