Our workshop is located at 57, V.O.C. Street in Pondicherry. It’s a good spot for boat builders because we aren't too far from the water, which makes sense for what we do. Ultramarine Boat Builders has been around for a while, and V.O.C. Street has its own old-town charm that we really like. It’s not a massive factory with assembly lines; it’s more of a traditional space where things are done by hand. You’ll often see us outside or in the main bay working on a hull or sanding down some parts. The air here always has a bit of salt in it, and the pace of life in Pondicherry is generally a bit slower than in the big cities. We don't have a corporate office with air conditioning; we spend most of our time out where the boats are. Sometimes we get tourists walking by who are curious about what we’re building, and we don't mind a bit of a chat. We aren't really into big advertisements or fancy branding. Most of our work comes from people who know boats and know where to find us. It’s a craft we’ve been practicing for years, and we just take it one boat at a time. It’s hard work, and your hands get dirty and stained, but seeing a finished boat leave the shop is always a good feeling.
