Our office is at 37/C in Augusto Garden, which is tucked away near Kamarajar Salai in Moovender Nagar. It is a decent enough spot, though the traffic on the main road can be a headache during rush hour. We deal with the fishing side of things, but we are not out on the boats ourselves most of the time. Our days are filled with talking to the guys at the harbor and sorting through a lot of paperwork. The office is small and filled with folders and old ledgers. We have a few chairs for visitors, but they are usually covered in newspapers or trade journals. The ceiling fan wobbles a bit when it is on the highest setting, so we usually keep it on medium. It is not a high-tech environment. We use old computers and landline phones to get things done. Sometimes the smell of the sea air reaches us if the wind is blowing the right way. We are just a group of people trying to make sure the local fishers get what they need to keep their boats running. We do not have any big speeches or grand plans. We just take the calls, write down the numbers, and try to keep the records straight. It is honest, slow work that feels important to the people around here who rely on the coast for their living.
