Gurdev Cements

Gurdev Cements is located at No. 52 Maramam Coil Street in Cherumal Peth. I’ve lived around here for a long time, and selling cement seemed like a natural thing to do with all the building going on. It’s a straightforward business. We get the bags in, we stack them up, and then we send them out to whoever is building a wall or a whole house. The shop on Maramam Coil Street is usually covered in a fine layer of grey dust, which is just part of the trade. I don't try to make it look like a boutique because it’s not. It’s a place for construction supplies. I spend most of my time on the phone coordinating deliveries or talking to laborers who stop by. People in Cherumal Peth know me by name, and they know where to find the shop when they run out of materials in the middle of a job. We don't do any flashy advertising or try to pretend we are bigger than we are. It’s just me and a couple of guys helping with the heavy lifting. The work is physical and sometimes the bags are heavy, but it’s honest. I like being part of the process that helps people build their homes. It’s satisfying to see a house go up and know that the cement came from our little spot at No. 52. We just keep things moving, one bag at a time.
