At Av Medical College & Hospital, the Department of Physiology is where a lot of the behind-the-scenes work happens. It’s not like the regular hospital wards where you see patients all the time; instead, it’s full of students, textbooks, and lab equipment. We spend a lot of our time looking at how the human body works and explaining it to the next generation of doctors. The department has a lot of old desks and shelves piled high with papers and research materials. It can get a bit dusty and crowded, especially when exam time is coming up and the students are everywhere. We’ve got microscopes and various charts on the walls that have been there for years. The air usually smells a bit like a lab, and there is always the sound of someone typing or flipping through a heavy book. It’s a quiet kind of busy compared to the emergency room, but it’s just as important in its own way. The faculty members have been teaching here for a long time and they know these halls inside and out. We don't have a lot of bells and whistles in our offices, just the stuff we need to teach and study. It’s a place for learning and thinking about the details of the body. Most days are spent in labs or small classrooms, just getting through the syllabus and helping students understand the basics of what makes us human.
