Star Steel Fabs

You can find Star Steel Fabs over at No-32/18 in Sri Balaji Nagar. We are in the Vadakipalayam Pirivu area of Pollachi Ho. It’s right near the railway cross in Mahalingapuram, so sometimes we get stuck watching the trains go by when we’re moving materials in and out. The shop is full of steel sheets and rods. It’s a heavy place with the sound of hammers hitting metal most of the afternoon. We started out with just a few basic tools and have added things over the years as we could afford them. The roof is corrugated metal, so when it rains, you can’t hear yourself think in here. But when it’s sunny, the light comes through the gaps and it’s not too bad. We have a small crew and everyone knows their role. We don’t use any big fancy words to describe what we do. We just take the steel and turn it into whatever is needed. There are always scrap pieces lying around that we eventually find a use for. We have a couple of dogs that hang around the gate and keep us company. It’s a busy corner of Mahalingapuram, and we feel like a permanent part of the scenery now. We just keep our heads down and stay focused on the welding and the cutting. Most of the guys have been here since the start and we know the machines inside out.
