If you walk down Vinayagar Kovil Lane in Udumalpet, you’ll find us at number 49. You’ll probably smell the wood before you see the sign. We spend our days cutting, sanding, and polishing. It’s a messy business with sawdust getting on everything. We have a small workshop where we put together chairs, tables, and cabinets. It’s mostly traditional styles that people around here like. We use good wood and don’t rush the work. The lane is narrow, so when we get a delivery of timber, it can block the path for a bit. The neighbors are patient though. We have a few craftsmen who have been with us for years. They know their way around a chisel. We don’t have a fancy showroom. We just show people what we’re currently working on in the shop. It’s a bit cramped with all the half-finished pieces, but it works for us. The heat in Udumalpet can be tough in the afternoons, so we start early when it’s cooler. We get a lot of local families coming in looking for something that will last. We don’t do much advertising. People just know where the furniture shop is. It’s honest labor and we take some pride in seeing a finished piece go out the door. We’re just a local business trying to make things that people can use in their homes. It is a good way to live.
