Sm Plast Industries

Getting out to Sm Plast Industries takes a bit of a drive. We are located at Factory 281/1, on Plot No. 2, right at the end of Ghotawade Road. By the time you get to Last Amboli in the Mulshi District, the city feels pretty far away. It’s much quieter out here, except for the noise coming from the machines inside the shed. The air in the factory has that specific smell of warm plastic that you never really get used to. We have a small yard where the trucks pull in to pick things up, and it gets quite muddy when the Pune rains start. The roof is corrugated metal, so when it pours, you can hardly hear yourself think. We have a small corner screened off with some plywood that serves as the office. There’s an old desk and a computer that’s a bit slow, but it works for what we need. Most of the guys working here live nearby in the Taluk. We take our breaks outside when the weather is nice, just sitting on some crates and watching the traffic go by on Ghotawade Road. It’s not the most glamorous place to work, but it’s where we’ve been for years. We just keep the machines running and try to stay on top of the orders as they come in. Sometimes the stray dogs from the village come and sit by the gate for shade when it is hot outside.
