Ajanta Khadi Bhandar

Ajanta Khadi Bhandar is located in Pilkhuwa at the Chah Dibba area. Pilkhuwa has always been known for its textiles and we are right in the middle of it. Our shop is filled with rolls of khadi cloth stacked up from the floor to the ceiling. You can smell the cotton as soon as you walk through the door. It is a quiet kind of place compared to the big factories nearby. We spend our mornings dusting off the shelves and rearranging the stacks so people can see the different patterns. The Chah Dibba area has narrow streets and it is always a bit of a squeeze when deliveries come in. We have been here for a long time and the building itself has that old feel to it. People come in looking for something specific and we spend time unrolling the fabric on the big wooden counter. It is a slow process but that is just how khadi is. We don't use computers much here. We just keep track of things in our ledgers and talk to whoever walks in. Sometimes the neighbors stop by just to chat for a bit. When the sun starts to set, we start folding everything back up and getting the shop ready for the next morning. It is a simple life centered around the cloth and the local community here in Pilkhuwa.
