Birla Institute Of Technology Science Pilani

Down in FD-III, you will find the Biology Group here at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science in Pilani. It is a quiet part of the campus for the most part. We spend our days surrounded by lab equipment, glass slides, and stacks of research papers that never seem to get any smaller. The labs aren't exactly modern or shiny, but they have everything we need to do our work. There is always a faint smell of chemicals in the air, which you just get used to after a week or two. We share the space among several people, so the benches can get a little crowded when everyone is running experiments at the same time. We don't have a big fancy office. Most of us just have a small desk tucked into a corner somewhere. It is a lot of waiting for things to grow or for results to come back from the machines. We drink a lot of coffee from the nearby canteen just to stay awake during the long afternoon stretches. It is a lot of recorded data and notes that fill up our notebooks. Sometimes the equipment breaks down and we have to spend hours trying to figure out why by reading the manual again. It is just part of the daily routine here. We aren't a big corporate lab. We are just a group of people interested in biology trying to make sense of our data in this old building.
