Ghewar Singh Manihari

Ghewar Singh is my name and this is my manihari shop in Raika Bag. If you are looking for bangles or hair clips in this part of Phalodi, you probably know where I am. I have been sitting in this shop in Jodhpur for many years now. It is a quiet kind of work, mostly selling small accessories and things for grooming. I don't have a big staff, it's just me most of the time. Sometimes my son comes by to help when he is not at school. The shelves are packed with boxes of all sizes. I have to use a ladder to reach the top ones. Customers in Raika Bag are very particular about their choices. They want to see ten different shades of thread before they buy one. It takes patience. The shop isn't modern, it's just a traditional place with wooden counters. The floor is a bit uneven, but nobody seems to care. I like the morning hours when it's still cool outside and I can sweep the front of the store in peace. Life in Phalodi moves at its own pace. Jodhpur is famous for its history, and I feel like these small shops are a part of that too. We just keep going, day after day, selling our small goods at Ghewar Singh Manihari. It's a modest living but it's ours and we are thankful for it.
