Mankoo Hydraulics has been sitting right here on GT Road in Chachoki for longer than I care to count. If you know the road, you know how busy it gets with all the trucks and buses flying past. The dust is something you just learn to live with after a week. We spend most of our days covered in oil or trying to figure out why a pump isn’t building pressure like it should. It’s greasy work, and our hands are never really clean, even after using the heavy soap. My brother and I usually handle the main stuff while the boys out back take care of the heavy lifting. We don’t have a big sign with neon lights, just the name on the wall that’s faded a bit from the sun. People usually find us because someone told them we could fix what was broken. There is a small tea shop just down the road that brings us glasses of hot chai twice a day. That’s usually when we take a break and sit on the wooden benches outside. Sometimes the traffic is so loud we have to shout to hear each other, but you get used to it. We don’t bother with fancy offices or computers for every little thing. We keep our notes in registers and our tools within reach. It’s a simple way of doing things, but it works for us and our customers seem to prefer it that way too.
