About Mangat Rai Rakesh Kumar – Food & Beverages in Phagwara
Operating Mangat Rai Rakesh Kumar right opposite the Civil Hospital on GT Road is a hectic way to live. The traffic on the main road never really stops, and you can hear the ambulances and the trucks all through the day. We deal mostly with bulk supplies and wholesale trading, so there is always a lot of heavy lifting involved. My back usually aches by the time we close up for the night. The building is old and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we are too busy to worry about that. We have bags of grain and pulses stacked everywhere. It’s a family-run thing, and we’ve been at this spot for a long time. People know us for being here across from the hospital. The floor is concrete and it gets quite cold in the winter months. We don't have a fancy showroom. If you come here, you’ll see us moving sacks or writing down orders in our ledgers. The GT Road dust is a constant battle. Sometimes we share a tea with the drivers who are dropping off loads from the surrounding farms. It’s a lot of manual work and long hours, but it’s what my family has always done. We don't use any high-tech systems; we just keep track of everything in our books and make sure the deliveries go out to the local shops on time. It is a very straightforward way to run a business.
