Kapurthala Engineering Works

We’ve been here across from the New Grain Market on Sultanpur Road for a long time now. Most mornings start with the sound of trucks pulling into the market, which usually wakes the whole street up before the sun is even fully out. Our shop isn't anything fancy to look at, just a practical space where we get the engineering work done. You’ll probably see some grease on the floor and tools scattered on the benches because we are always right in the middle of a job. It’s a busy spot, especially when the harvest is on and everyone needs something fixed fast. We don't spend much time painting the walls or worrying about how the office looks. Most of our day is spent at the machines or talking to people who drop by with parts that need looking at. Sometimes it’s quiet, and we just sit around the back with some tea, but usually, there’s a lot of clanging and banging going on. The sign outside is a bit faded from the sun, but people find us easily enough because we’re right there by the grain market entrance. My hands are usually dirty by ten in the morning, and that’s just how it goes here. We have a few guys who have been with us for years, and they know where every single wrench is kept, even if the place looks a bit messy to an outsider. It’s a simple way to make a living, working with metal and machines in this part of town.
