Swathy Wood Crafts

We run Swathy Wood Crafts out of Kooppidy House in Koodalappad. It’s a family-run thing with Baby G and a couple of others helping out. We don't have a shop in the middle of a big market or anything like that. We just work from the house. It's a bit more relaxed this way, though there is always work to be done. The yard is often full of wood that we're seasoning or offcuts that we haven't found a use for yet. We use traditional methods mostly because that is how we were taught. It's not fast work, but it's what we know. The neighbors in Koodalappad are used to the noise of the chisels and the occasional saw. We get our timber from around the area when we can. Every piece of wood is different, so you have to treat it right. Sometimes the grain is tricky and you have to be careful not to split it. We don't have a big sign out front or anything. People usually just know where we are. It’s a simple setup, really. We have our tools, a bit of space, and enough work to keep us going. The dogs usually hang around while we work, staying out of the way of the shavings. We aren't looking to expand or become a big company. We just like staying here and making things with our hands for the people we know. It’s a good way to spend the days.
