Lemon Tree Amarante Beach Resort

Even though the resort is famous, our daily life happens more around the M.P.T Colony at Headland Sada. I stay at Quarter Number 247/I/4, which is one of those A-Type houses they built for the port trust employees. It’s a bit of a trek from here to the beach where the tourists stay, but living up on the headland gives you a different perspective of Vasco. You get that salty breeze coming off the ocean all day long, which is nice, even if it rusts everything you own. Most of our mornings are spent getting ready for the shift, making sure the uniforms are pressed and thinking about what the guests will need that day. The colony is a quiet place where kids play in the lanes and people know who belongs to which house. It’s a far cry from the fancy lobby and the pool, but it’s where we relax and recharge. Sometimes the commute down the hill can be a pain if you miss the bus, but that’s just life in Goa. We work hard to make sure the resort looks perfect, even if our own quarters are just simple and functional. It’s a bit of a split life, being in the middle of luxury during the day and coming back to a regular government colony at night, but it keeps us grounded and reminds us of why we do the work we do.
