Down on 58/60 Sheikmeeran Street, things move at their own pace. Farida Shoes Pvt. Ltd. is tucked into this busy part of the city where the streets are narrow and the buildings are packed close together. If you walk down the lane, you’ll hear the rhythmic tapping coming from our workroom. We’ve been here long enough that the neighbors don’t even notice the noise anymore. The building itself is older, with high ceilings and walls that have seen a lot of years. We mostly spend our hours sorting through leather and making sure the shoe parts fit together properly. It’s a lot of manual work, sitting at the benches and using tools that have been passed down through a couple of hands. There’s no air conditioning, just some old ceiling fans that do their work to move the air around when it gets humid. We keep a stack of boxes near the entrance, ready for whatever needs to go out that day. Sometimes the delivery trucks have a hard time squeezing through the street, so there’s a bit of shouting and maneuvering involved. It’s just part of the daily routine here on Sheikmeeran Street. We don’t have a website with fancy photos; we just have the actual work sitting on the tables. It’s a simple life, focused on the craft and making sure we don't fall behind on the schedule. Everyone knows their job and we just get on with it.
