Our office is right in the middle of the Vellaiyan Market area on Mahalakshmi Street. If you've been to Perambur, you know how loud it gets. Prompt Travel Services has been running out of this same small spot for years. Most mornings we're checking train schedules and seeing which buses are late. It’s not a quiet place because of the vendors and scooters outside. People drop in while doing their vegetable shopping to ask about bus tickets or passport stuff. We spend a lot of time on the phone or staring at the computer trying to find a seat for someone heading home. It gets chaotic when the internet is slow, but that’s just the daily routine. We have some old calendars and plastic chairs for people to wait. It’s not fancy. We just handle the bookings and try to get the names right on the forms. Sometimes we share tea with the spice seller next door when things slow down. It’s a tight squeeze if more than a couple of people walk in. The walls are stained from the monsoon damp, and we have an old clock that ticks too loudly. But it’s where we’ve always been, right here in the market. We don't really plan on moving anywhere else. It’s just us doing our bit to help people get where they need to go. We've seen a lot of changes in Perambur, but Mahalakshmi Street always stays busy.
