Muthu Cement Works

Our yard is located at No: 583/3 on Mariyamman Kovil Street in Velluvadi. It’s a quiet part of Kaariyanur Post, but we stay busy enough with the cement work. Muthu Cement Works has been a fixture here in Vepanthattai Taluk for a while. We aren't a giant factory, just a local business where we make blocks and other cement items. The street is usually calm, except when a big delivery truck comes through to drop off a load of sand or stones. We spend a lot of time checking the mix to make sure it’s just right before we pour anything into the molds. It’s a messy job, and our clothes are always covered in grey dust by the time we go home. We use the space behind the house mostly for the production and storage. The neighbors are used to the noise of the mixer by now. We don’t have fancy brochures or a front desk. If someone needs blocks, they just come down to Mariyamman Kovil Street and find us in the back working. It’s a lot of physical labor, stacking the heavy blocks and making sure they’re cured enough before they go out. We like the fact that we do it all ourselves, from the first scoop of cement to the final count on the truck. It's just a regular life in Velluvadi, making things that last for the people around here. We hope the rain stays away so the work can continue without any interruptions.
