Surya General Store

Surya General Store has been here in Anisabad for a good while now. We are right on the Patna Bypass Road, pretty much across from the Hdfc Atm. It stays busy out there with all the trucks and cars going past Manikchand Talab. The pond is a landmark people use to find us. I spend most of my day behind the counter. We keep all sorts of things people need suddenly, like soap, biscuits, and notebooks for the kids. It gets quite dusty because of the road, so we spend a lot of time wiping down the jars. Sometimes people stop by just to ask for directions while they are using the ATM. It is a simple life here. We open early in the morning when the air is still a bit cool. Most of the neighbors from the nearby lanes come in for their morning tea leaves or milk packets. I know most of them by their names. It is not a big fancy place, just a regular shop where we try to keep the shelves full. When the lights go out, we just use the battery backup or a candle till it comes back. It is just how things go in Patna. We have a small stool for people to sit if they are tired from walking. I like talking to the regulars about the local news. We don't have everything, but we try to have what is most important for a household.
