Supar Kirana Store

It is always a bit chaotic here in Patna, especially around the Guzri Bazaar area near the Pachhim Darwaza. Our shop, Supar Kirana Store, is located right in the middle of all that noise. We are not too far from the Sales Tax Office, so we see a lot of people coming and going for their government work throughout the week. The shop is filled with bags of rice and pulses, and we have those plastic containers for all the different types of spices. It smells like turmeric and dried chilies most of the time when you walk in. We try to keep things organized but when the afternoon rush hits, it gets a bit messy. The floor is made of old stone and it’s hard to keep perfectly clean with people walking in from the dusty street all day. We’ve been running this place for a long time now. My nephew helps me out in the evenings when the school crowd comes by for snacks and cold drinks. We don't have a fancy computer system or anything, just a thick notebook where we write down the daily sales. The fan on the ceiling makes a clicking sound but it works well enough to keep the heat away. Sometimes the electricity goes out for an hour or two, so we keep a few candles handy near the cash box. It’s a basic life but we know everyone in the neighborhood by their first name.
